Ninja Gaiden

The wind howls as these two "Dueling" Ninjas glare at each other in the moonlight. Though these men seem like little more than shadows in the air, the moonlight reveals just for an instant, a glint of light that proves to be the end of the contest. Ken, the head of the Hayabusa clan which has for generations been the guardian of the Dragon sword, is defeated.

Ken's son Ryu, after learning of his father's defeat, finds a letter. In it Ryu is told that if his father does not return, he must take the secret Dragon sword and go to America. Ryu senses danger awaiting him in America. What will be the fate of Ninja Ryu!?

Ninja Gaiden
This is an action platforming game where the story isn't just part of the background. The engaging plot will take you from the streets of America to sweltering jungles, perilous cliffs and ancient temples. As expected of a ninja, your blade will be able to fell enemies in a single blow, excluding bosses of course. Also included in your bag of tricks is the unique ability to grab onto walls. You can spring back and forth to reach very high areas or even leap from the wall to launch a surprise attack at a pursuing enemy. Special abilities such as the throwing star can also be found throughout stages and used to get past especially hard areas. Be aware they consume your limited spiritual strength so know when to use them wisely.

Ninja Gaiden's notoriously high difficulty stems mostly from the high concentration of enemies that will come at you from every direction. An experienced player will know what to look out for but it can be overwhelming the first time through. Losing all of your lives simply restarts you to the beginning of the current area so you will have ample opportunity to master all six stages.
